Smartphones have become a significant part of online. Each person on the planet today owns at least one smartphone irrespective of their age. Even children or senior citizen have their smartphones. The pandemic proved that each one of us needs advice to be connected for work or even other things. Smartphones are a great invention of technology but do we realise how dependent we Are on them?

Is there always two sides to any element, even the smartphone. It has its advantages and disadvantages that we can see. However, it depends on us how we want to make use of it. Some people are getting addicted to smartphones and cannot even live without them. As soon as we sell a used phone we instantly switch to another one. This is something severe that we need to pay attention to. This is giving a rise to problems such as insomnia and depression. How do we cope with it?

Addiction

There are many reports that people are getting addicted to mobile phones as they are using their smartphones all the time. This addiction is just like an addiction to alcohol or drugs. People cannot go a day without their smartphones and even if they try to it makes them quite frustrated. This is living proof that the smartphone has all the control and a brain which is affecting different factors of our life. Children get access to smartphones at a young age as it needs to be done for the sake of studies or assignments. However, children seem to be watching videos or playing games of the day which is affecting their health as well.

Smartphones were invented for helping human beings perform different activities and promote communication. However, the situation has turned around and instead of us controlling our mobile phones smartphones have started the control us.

Other signs that indicate we are addicted to mobile phones:-

  • Loss of focus/concentration

You might pick up your mobile phone to complete a task at work but eventually forget about it as it got another notification. We switch to our social media applications or start playing games or might be distracted By many different applications on my mobile phone. This is how you are losing focus on your work and getting indulged in other useless activities. This might not happen consciously or intentionally but you need to realise that it is happening

  • Changes in our behaviour

There are many behavioural changes that we noticed in human behaviour. For example, we become antisocial and be alone with a mobile phone browsing the internet. All the communication has turned to text and chatting rather than verbal or visual conversation. All of these factors affect our communication skills and also contribute to behavioural change in a negative way. We cannot completely focus on our work or any other activity just because we have a mobile phone in our minds all the time.

  • Being anxious or frustrated

Being anxious or frustrated doesn’t only come from this addiction but it is a way of behaviour that is a different aspect. This might be another way how we are noticing ourselves getting anxious when our mobile phone is out of our reach. However, you must know to limit and cut out the time that you spend with your mobile phone as well as your other electronic devices. We can even note the change in behaviour while a mobile phone is gone for its phone repair service.

How can we help this situation?

There are small steps which can help you get out of this addiction and maintain a balanced life. You might want to switch off the notifications for unwanted applications that you keep on opening. When you get a notification you simply get the urge to check it. Which can be avoided by switching it off. You might want to keep your mobile phone on do not disturb mode.  Switch it off when you are resting or sleeping.

Also, do not engage with your mobile phone while you are already doing some other tasks such as eating food, watching TV, working out at the gym and so on. You can also plan a detox day to keep yourself busy with other activities. Otherwise, we can plan out a particular time when you will not use your mobile phone during the day or night. Avoid using your mobile phone while you are charging it. As it can affect the battery as well as you will get a reason to keep it away.

 Conclusion

At the end of the day, we need to be the masters of our smartphones, and not depend on them so much to make sense of this world. There is more to life than a retweet, selfie or Like. And if you happen to find it boring to live life without your smartphone, perhaps this is a wake-up call to reclaim a life that is independent of tech and geared towards true happiness.
