The Advantages of Renting a Scooter in Tenerife
You’ve probably heard plenty of great things about the island of Tenerife; its reputation as one of the Canary Islands doesn’t disappoint, and you’ll definitely want to spend some time exploring its natural beauty while you’re here on vacation. But if you don’t rent a scooter tenerife, you might just be missing out on some of the best activities available to you! Whether you head to the north or south end of the island, there are so many ways that renting a scooter will enhance your Tenerife trip.
Why rent a scooter instead of using public transport?
Once you’ve visited Tenerife and seen what it has to offer, it’s likely that you will want to visit more locations around its mountainous interior. If so, you are going to need a car or a scooter as many places are not easy to reach by bus. Why spend hours on public transport when it takes much less time to drive or ride your own vehicle? In fact, with public transport you could be anywhere in an hour if you don’t have too many stops along the way; by using your own wheels and allowing yourself plenty of time for sightseeing along the way, you could be there within half an hour or less!
How much does it cost to rent a scooter?
There is an annual licence fee that costs €12 and an annual acquisition tax of €200, payable when you buy your scooter. You will also need to pay for public liability insurance, which costs between €100 and €350 per year depending on your level of cover. If you’re only planning on renting during your stay, however, it may be more convenient to buy a temporary policy that’s usually cheaper than an annual policy. If so, take with you proof of your residence – such as a bank statement or utility bill – as well as a passport photo so you can pick up your insurance card from any number of outlets across Tenerife. A temporary licence costs about €8 for one week.
Where can you rent a scooter?
If you’re on holiday in Spain, it can be hard to resist ditching your suit and tie or dress and heels for flip-flops and shorts—especially when you’re traveling to a warm climate. But while you may feel your best as soon as you leave your suitcase behind, if you haven’t planned your travel itinerary accordingly, picking up a scooter could lead to feeling less than stellar. Don’t let tanned locals with shiny hair and ripped abs make you feel bad about yourself; instead, get ahead of them by renting an electric scooter for those rides to and from work meetings (and anything else that makes your head spin).
What safety equipment do you need?
In addition to standard motorcycle riding gear, such as a helmet and gloves, you should also rent full body armor. It may seem unnecessary, but if you don’t rent body armor and end up in an accident that causes your shoulder to strike asphalt, you could find yourself with road rash on more than just your skin. Body armor will help prevent any other part of your body from making contact with asphalt or rocks while you’re lying down on it. Also remember that helmets can only do so much when it comes to protecting you; as a general rule, any time there’s risk involved in something you do, protect yourself accordingly. This goes for amusement park rides as well!
How do you know if you have the right size scooter?
One of your biggest concerns when it comes to renting a scooter will likely be finding one that fits. You don’t want to feel cramped or straddle too wide for comfort, but you also don’t want to get one that leaves you feeling like you’re about to fly off and take an aerial tour along with your passenger. The best way to guarantee yourself the perfect fit is by getting your height and weight information before making any final decisions. Then, compare those numbers with what size models are available so you can choose an appropriate scooter and test it out on site before buying anything.

Always wear a helmet, no matter what kind of vehicle you are riding or where. Not only does it make for safer driving, but helmets are compulsory on all scooters and bikes when on public roads. It is illegal to ride without one so don’t risk being fined! This can also result in drivers getting their vehicle impounded.
Driving tips
The first and most important thing you need to keep in mind is that, at least compared to other countries, driving standards are not very high. Keep your cool, be careful and give way to traffic coming from your right, even if it’s not quite clear whether they’re going straight or turning. Speed limits are as follows: 50 km/h (31 mph) on motorways; 90 km/h (56 mph) on open roads outside built-up areas; 80 km/h (50 mph) on open roads inside built-up areas; 60 km/h (37 mph) inside towns and cities.
