Video Production Business
Are you the person that takes a camera around with them all the time, or the youngster who used to record all of your family’s happenings and memories on a video recorder? If that’s the case, video creation can be one of the best small business ideas for you. With the rising popularity of video on social media platforms and the internet as a whole, those who can shoot, edit, or both are in high demand. Even if you have no prior video experience, such as graphic design, there are a plethora of online courses that can teach you how to cut and edit video using Adobe or Final Cut Pro.
You can also use simple video software like Doodly or Videoscribe in your initial days of video production.
Flower Shop
This afternoon, I sent out some flowers. I did a Google search for a florist in my area. I decided not to patronize the first one I found online because their website did not impress me. They displayed some flower arrangements, but none of them were clearly labeled, described, or priced. I ordered my flowers from the second local florist’s website because it was much better designed.
I want to shout from the rooftops: ANY BUSINESS NEEDS A FABULOUS WEBSITE!! This is true for your floral shop – or almost any other type of business, regardless of size. It’s not difficult to accomplish. Let’s be clear: the first website I visited was inadequate, and it received zero percent of my business. The second website was excellent, and it received 100% of my business.
That’s why the first topic in my digital marketing course is how to build a great website. It’s not difficult to accomplish. It does not need to be a large site. A complicated website is not required. However, it must complete the task. And that includes doing everything you can to ensure it appears in local search results at the very least.
If you do a good job with your flower shop, you will be asked to provide flowers for special occasions such as weddings, parties, and business events. Reach out to wedding and event planners, as well as local venues that host large groups, to increase your sales for such special events.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Business
In the 1990s, I hired a search engine optimization firm for a website called CareerCity.com, a job posting website that I sold a few years later. SEO was a lucrative business back then, and it remains so today.
Every company wants to rank as high as possible in Google and other search engines for important keywords. The competition for popular search terms is fierce. As a result, both large and small businesses hire SEO firms to help them improve their search engine rankings.
Some companies hire SEO firms on a one-time basis to optimise their website or supplement their in-house SEO efforts. However, what you really want is a monthly retainer to work with a company on an ongoing basis to improve their search engine rankings.
What is the secret to business success? First and foremost, you want to provide excellent results for your clients while avoiding any “black hat” tactics that could result in them being penalised by Google or other search engines. Second, you must control expectations. If your client expects to rank #1 globally for a highly popular and profitable keyword, you must patiently explain that this is unlikely to happen.
Finally, you must find clients. Obviously, ranking high in search engines for the keyword “SEO” would be ideal. Of course, the competition is fierce. Local searches for SEO and related terms, on the other hand, have far less competition.
Getting subcontract assignments or referrals from a full-service digital marketing firm is another common way to get SEO clients. You’ll need some experience and you’ll need to start networking to get this kind of work.
Many potential clients will attempt SEO on their own first. As a result, you can try to attract clients by writing SEO-related articles, emails, and social media posts. You might also consider hosting webinars or seminars.
You may want to learn how to rank at the top of Google search results even if you are not starting an SEO business.
Daycare Business
This is yet another business that you can start small with little money at home. You can also grow it at your own pace, up to the size you want. Bright Horizons, for example, has grown to over 1,000 locations and $1 billion in annual sales.
Daycare is a big business, no matter how you measure it. Daycare is a $40 billion a year industry in the United States, with over 56,000 commercial locations and 21,000 nonprofit locations.
Repeat customers and consistent income are two important business characteristics for daycare. It is also adaptable. You can open a daycare in your home, a leased location, or a location provided by a third party, such as a corporation that would benefit from having a convenient daycare on its premises.
When I first bought my house (a two-family so that I could rent out the larger unit for income), the woman next door ran a daycare out of her home. She also looked after her own children, which saved her money on daycare costs.
To get started, look into your state’s regulations and obtain a licence. If you have employees, you’ll need liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Late payments, sick children, possible injuries, and late pickups will all require specific policies. You’ll also want to make certain that your facility is completely child-safe. I recommend getting down on your hands and knees like a small child and imagining all the different ways they could get themselves into trouble!
It may appear to be a lot of work, but it’s all doable, and many people start new daycare businesses every day. It’s no surprise, given how difficult it is to find quality daycare.
