All You Need To Know About The KTM RC 200
The RC 200 from KTM has always been a favourite among Indian riders. The reasons are plenty but the one that takes the cake is the engaging riding experience the bike offers.
Furthermore, the bike also offered impressive handling and amazing acceleration as well.
So, does the 2022 iteration of the KTM RC 200 still carry the appeal of its predecessor?
In a nutshell, yes it does and the details are as follows –
The overall quality of the bike
The 2022 iteration of the RC 200 carries the same built quality as its predecessor, if not better!
For instance, the paint finish of the bike is amazing. The overall quality of all the plastic trim on the vehicle is built to last. Even the nuts and bolts used on the motorcycle also ooze quality.
To sum it up, at first glance, the 2023 KTM RC 200 is a sight to behold. It has a sharp design language that makes the bike look elegant and mature!
Riding comfort
Compared to its predecessor, the 2022 iteration of the RC 200 is pretty easy to ride on a daily basis.
The seat height of the bike remains at 824mm. As soon as one takes a seat, they can feel that the bike is more comfortable than before.
How?
Well, the engineers raised the handlebar thus allowing the rider to reduce their crouching position. The overall design and amount of padding on the seats are also changed. This was a necessity as the bike now allows riders to ride non-stop for long hours without hurting their backs!
Pillion riders however will feel the thrills as the pillion seat is quite high. Available padding on the pillion seat is adequate for a comfortable ride. The availability of rear grab rails is also a bonus.
Performance
The bike is powered by a 199.5 CC, single-cylinder, BS-6-tuned, liquid-cooled engine that powered its predecessor. The power and torque figures of the motor are 25.4bhp and 19.5Nm respectively. KTM equipped the 2022 RC 200 with a bigger air intake that allows a better throttle response. The radiator unit is also redesigned to ensure the heat dissipation capability of the unit is enhanced.
The gearbox equipped in the 2022 RC 200 is slick that supports effortless shifts. The clutch of the gearbox is light.
There is one downside though. On long rides, the gearbox often misbehaves.
How?
Well, the gears shifts often take some effort from the rider’s end. Furthermore, the bike tends to vibrate a lot at high RPM ranges. It is typical for KTM motor due to its inherent need to retain high RPM ranges. KTM tried to reduce engine vibrations but they still creep to the feet of the rider through the footpegs.
Handling
The overall handling of the 2022 RC 200 is sharper than its predecessor.
Avid and novice riders will find the bike pretty responsive as the handling is now more composed and predictable. Riders now will feel confident enough to push the bike on straight stretches as well as on turns.
The OEM tyres offer impressive grip on both straight lines and curves but there’s a catch. When pushed to the limits, the OEM tyres fail to offer the necessary feedback.
Available tech
The 2022 version of the RC 200 gets a redesigned instrument cluster. It is user-friendly due to its larger display. It has been programmed to show all necessary data to the rider. The layout and font offer a better user experience factor.
The information available in the display of the instrument cluster is as follows –
- Fuel range
- Trip meters (twin)
- Gear position
- Clock
- Speedometer readings
- Tachometer readings
- Odometer
- Average fuel consumed and a lot more.
