Fake watches: A one-of-a-kind stainless steel piece created in honor of the company’s late founder will be auctioned for charity by Phillips in association with Bacs & Russo in Geneva on May 13, 2018.
While Walter Lange had retired from the company in recent years, he remained involved as a brand ambassador and consultant, serving as a role model for his employees and the world of watchmaking.
In a twist of fate, the founder of the modern company passed away on the second day of SIHH last year.
The best way to honor someone is to carry on his legacy and fulfill his vision,
and with the 1815 “Homage to Walter Lange,” brand CEO Wilhelm Schmid has finally done just that.
Apparently, one of Walter Lange’s greatest wishes was that A. Lange & Söhne design a watch with jumping seconds, based on a landmark 1877 patent issued to Lange, which was considered a forerunner of the modern chronograph. The brand was not really interested in producing such a watch,
especially after having launched the more advanced Richard Lange Jumping Seconds watch. But the death of the company’s founder changed the calculations.
In response, the brand has captured the essence of its founder
by launching a unique piece with a black enamel dial and 40.5mm stainless steel case. The fact that stainless steel is used is a rarity for A. Lange & Söhne, even something “exotic”. That’s because the German watchmaker rarely uses stainless steel and its steel models can be counted on the fingers of one hand. best replica watches
The new “Homage to Walter Lange” from 1815 also boasts three notable technical features. They include the train of wheels for the sweep of the jumping seconds located on the three-quarter plate,
the jump seconds controlled according to the “flirt-and-star” principle
and the trigger mechanism that allows the jumping seconds start and stop without interfering with the execution of the movement. Below we have the newly developed movement, which has a special caliber designation: the L1924. It refers to the year of Walter Lange’s birth, while the first three digits of the reference number 297.078 are a nod to his date of birth.
The one-off will also be complemented by a limited series that has other specific numbers tied to it. There will be 145 watches in white gold, 90 in rose gold and 27 in yellow gold. These seemingly irrelevant numbers are also based on important milestones in the Lange family’s history. Because Walter Lange was always active in humanitarian work,
the decision was made to auction the one-of-a-kind tribute watch at auction. Proceeds will benefit the Children Action Foundation, an organization that runs health care and psychological support projects for children. Phillips auction house, in association with Geneva-based Bacs & Russo, will auction the unique piece in Geneva on May 13, 2018 as part of its annual spring auction after going on a world tour of six world cities.
