The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is not an examination, but it is a constitutional body authorised to conduct various examinations in the country, one of which is the Civil Services Examination, while the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) commonly known as the IAS Also known as the exam it is not an exam, it is one of the civil services like IPS, IFS, IES etc. for which candidates enter the civil services exam.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

UPSC is a constitutional body. This is a central agency which is authorised to conduct various exams in India. The list of all these exams is given below.

The Commission’s approval is stipulated by the Constitution of India, as set forth in Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the Constitution.

Administration and control

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) consists of ten more members in addition to the chairman. The President of India has appointed the Chairman and other members of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Generally, the members of the commission have worked in civil service positions at the Centre and in the states with at least 10 years of experience in the central or state service. Each member serves for a term of 6 years or until he attains the age of 65 years.

Members can submit their resignations to the President of India at any time. Any member of the Commission shall be removed by the President of India on the ground of his misbehaviour. If a member is insolvent or is accused of carrying on any employment other than the duties of his office or is afflicted by illness of mind or body, he is disqualified to act in office.

A member can be removed from office by the President of India with the procedure laid down in Article 317 of the Constitution of India.

Recruitment Rules

All provisions as mentioned in Article 320 of the Constitution of India, Union Public Service Commission (Exemption from Consultancy) Regulations 1958, Recruitment Rules for all Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ posts in various Ministries/Departments of the Government with the Commission are prepared in consultation. Every year various examinations are conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on an all India basis and include Civil Services, Engineering, Medical and Forest Services etc.

Work

The major functions of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) under Article 320 of the Indian Constitution are:

• To conduct various examinations for appointment to the services of the Union
• Direct recruitment by selection through interview
• To appoint officers of the department through promotion, deputation and absorption
• To constitute and amend the recruitment rules for various services and posts under Govt.
• disciplinary matters relating to various civil services
• In respect of any matter relating to UPSC, he can directly recommend to the Government by the President of India

Report

Every year, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) submits a report of its work to the President of India. Every year, the Central Public Service Commission conducts various examinations and Civil Services Examination is one of them. The Civil Services exam is conducted in three phases:
